M.D. Roberts splits with Jonesboro

From Staff Reports

The M.D. Roberts seventh-grade middle school volleyball team lost its final match of the season Monday night, falling to Jonesboro in two games.

Jonesboro remained unbeaten in the victory.

Lady Bears coach Erin Tidwell said great serving by Kayla Robbins and Miisha Flyd, combining for 14 points in the first game. Robbins, along with Shareese Richardson and Brianna Thomas helped spark the teams momentum by racking up a combined 20 points off great serving to push the Lady Bears past the Lady Rams.

M.D. Roberts coach Teresa Wheeler said the team worked hard and looked forward to next season.

"Erica Bell, Jessica Chadwick, Kimble Crane, Sariah Larry, Katlyn Roberts, Amber Robinson, Tiffany Self, and Katie Suddeth were the 2005 seventh grade team," Wheeler said.

The M.D. Roberts eighth-grade team finished its fifth regular season in a row undefeated by defeating Jonesboro, 25-12, 25-14.

"The win was an entire team effort by all players stepping up and playing the ball aggressively," Wheeler said.

Tidwell said Jonesboro started out a little slow, but came back with good net play by Jasmine Robinson and Tasia Robinson.

Tasia Ronbinson ran off five serves to keep Jonesboro close, but despite total team effort on defense, fell short, Tidwell said.

Wednesday, M.D. Roberts and Jonesboro will play in the Clayton County Volleyball Tournament.
