GREENWOOD, S.C. - The No. 16 Division II ranked Clayton College & State University and No. 21 Lander each scored its goals early and settled for a 1-1 tie in a crucial Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Tuesday night. The teams stayed unbeaten in the conference with Clayton State's record at 8-3-4 (3-0-1 Peach Belt) while the Bearcats are 8-2-3 (2-0-2). The Bearcats opened the scoring at the 19:35 mark when Chiddy Mgbor kicked a behind-the-back pass that reached Luke Ibbetson in the penalty area. Ibbetson, who was named the PBC Player of the Week Tuesday, scored his conference-leading 17th goal, with Mgbor being credited with the assist. One minute later, Lander was whistled for tripping in the penalty area. Clayton State defender Alex Dowling tied the match by nailing the penalty kick to tie the game at 1. Bearcats goalkeeper Garrett Daum's right. The Lakers outshot Lander, 13-8 and had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Lander keeper Garrett Daum had seven saves, while Heath Padgett had two stops for Clayton State.More like this story
