The Southern Crescent will be well represented starting Saturday when the state volleyball tournament begins at locations around the state. In the Class AAAA tournament, Duthtown, Jonesboro and Eagle's Landing are all set to play in the postseason tournament. Duthtown, a second-year program with no seniors on the roster, earned the No.-1 seed out of Area 1 and will play against Lakeside Evans at St. Pius. Dutchtown's county rival Eagle's Landing goes into the tournament as the No.-2 seed out of Area 1 and plays Greenbrier in the first round of the Class AAAA state tournament at Alpharetta. It's also been a successful year for the Eagle's Landing Christian Academy Lady Chargers, who are just in their second year of GHSA competition. Eagle's Landing Christian earned a No.-2 seed at the Class AA/A Area 4 tournament, and opens state tournament competition against Landmark Christian at Wesyleyan High School. The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals have been one of the more successful teams from the Southern Crescent during the past few seasons, and will play in the state tournament for the fourth straight year. This year, the Lady Cardinals open tournament action against McIntosh High School at Clarke Central in Athens. Two local teams are in the hunt for a state crown in the Class AAAA tournament. Morrow, which won the Area 7 tournament opens state competition against Dacula at North Gwinnett High School. Riverdale, which lost to Morrow in the Area 7 tournament finals, plays Collins Hill at Collins Hill in its first round game. All first round action begins Saturday at 10 a.m. The double-elimination tournaments continue throughout the day. By the end of Saturday's action, each classification will be whittled down to a Final Four.More like this story
