The Union Grove Lady Wolverines and the Eagle's Landing Christian Academy Lady Chargers softball teams share something in common.
Both squads are ranked second in their respective gasports.com coaches' softball polls.
Union Grove, which spent several weeks ranked in the top spot, holds down its No. 2-ranking in the Class AAAAA poll, while Eagle's Landing Christian is ranked No.2 in the Class A poll.
Eagle's Landing is also represented in this week's Class AAAA poll. The Lady Golden Eagles break into the Class AAAA top 10 in the ninth spot. The Lady Golden Eagles are the third Henry County team out of Region 3-AAAA North to be ranked in the weekly Class AAAA coaches poll.
Earlier this year, Henry County and Luella were also ranked.
Union Grove has been ranked since the start of the season and comes into this week's action with a 17-4 overall record. The Lady Wolverines enter the contest with a five-game winning streak. Two of the victories were shutouts as Union Grove defeated Gordon Lee 1-0 and Fayette County 3-0.
Union Grove plays three games Thursday and two games Saturday, before returning home next week to close out the regular-season with contest against Lovejoy and Eastside.
At Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, the Lady Chargers are enjoying a worst-to-first scenario. A year ago in its first season as a member of the Georgia High School Association, the Lady Chargers won just five times. This season, the Lady Chargers have exploded on the state high school softball scene.
The Lady Chargers have won 10 straight games to earn their No. 2-ranking in the Class A poll. With four games remaining on the regular-season schedule, ELCA controls its own destiny with a two-game lead in the Region 5-A standings.
Eagle's Landing earned its first appearance in the gapsorts.com Class AAAA poll by posting a five-game winning streak. Senior pitcher Terri Mesko has held opponents scoreless during winning streak, as the Lady Golden Eagles have outscored opponents 6-0.
