Douglas Frank Johnson

Mr. Douglas Frank Johnson, of Jonesboro, born on Nov. 1, 1935, died on Aug. 8, 2007.

Mr. Douglas graduated from Fulton High School in Atlanta in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 5 years. Upon his discharge he became a pilot for Piedmont Airlines and North West Airlines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl D. and Beatrice H. Johnson; brother, Carl Johnson; and nephew, Ronald Johnson.

He is survived by his nephew, Roland Johnson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Johnson Pope; great niece, Whitney; five great nephews, Corey, Tyler, James, Robby and Jordan; and one great-great niece, Jamey.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park with Father Andy Santamauro, OFM Conv., officiating.

Richard G. Cox

Mr. Richard G. Cox, age 29, of Marietta, Ga., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007. He was born in Atlanta, Ga. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed baseball and football. His favorite team was the University of Alabama although he was from Georgia and was a closet UGA fan as well. He was an engineering major at the University of Alabama and recently became involved in real estate franchising. He just recently returned from the U.S. Virgin Islands. He was a very sociable person who never met a stranger. He was kind and nonjudgmental, always placing others before himself. He enjoyed spending time with children, especially his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cox is survived by his father, Joseph Boyd Cox Sr., Tuscaloosa, Ala.; mother, Ruth Roberts, Locust Grove, Ga.; brothers, Joe Cox Jr., Marietta, Ga., Michael Cox, Roswell, Ga., Mark Roberts, Yellowstone, Wyo.; sisters, Karen Wilson, Marietta, Ga., Diana Schmidt, Salt Lake City, Utah; nephew, Cashton Wilson, Marietta, Ga.; nieces, Lauren Cox and Caitlin Cox, both of Marietta, Ga.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at The Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Bishop Daniel Hanekamp officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Raymond L. Dowell

Mr. Raymond L. Dowell, age 67, of Fairburn, died Aug. 9, 2007. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Alberta Dowell; daughter, Donna Dowell, Fairburn; daughter, Rana Arth, Fairburn; grandchildren: SSG R.T. Harris, Melissa Harris, Amanda McElreath; great grandchildren: Lucas Dover, Austin Dover, Emily Harris; sister, Peggy Biever, Kansas City, Mo.; sister in law, Ruby Moore, Sharpsburg; niece Linda Burns, Sharpsburg. Mr. Dowell was a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church and retired from Milan Express. The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007 at 7 p.m. at Heatherwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Daugherty officiating. Whitney Cook

Ms. Whitney Cook, age 32, of Hampton passed away Aug. 8, 2007. She is survived by her sons, Chandler Cook, age 9 and Ayden Cook, age 5; her sister Ashley Cochran; her mother Malaine Herold; and father, Wiley Post. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. According to her wishes, cremation will follow after the service.
