Clela Mae Miller Slemons
Clela Mae Miller Slemons, 86, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 27. Mrs. Slemons was born in St. Charles, Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of Louisa Jane Shutt and Charley Monroe Miller. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LCDR Earl G. Slemons, Jr, a 30-year veteran of the United States Navy. They married within a month of his survival of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Moving numerous times, including taking their four young sons on a tour of duty in Japan. Clela was the strong mother to her boys while the Commander spent every two years at sea with the Navy. Transferred in 1964 to a special duty assignment at Fort Gilliem, which involved supplying Viet Nam, the couple brought their family from Charleston, S. C., to Jonesboro. Retired from Rich's Department Store, Mrs. Slemons was an active member of Valley Hill Baptist Church in Jonesboro and the Faith Sunday School class. She is survived by sons, Kenneth and Carole Slemons, of Ellerslie, Ga., David and Jerri Slemons, of McDonough, Paul and Jean Slemons, of Kennesaw, and Philip Slemons, of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Carl J Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Tara Blvd, Jonesboro. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-3 p.m.
Addie Wray, 99, of Morrow, died Thursday, Nov. 29. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Morrow, with Pastor Thomas Quisenberry officiating. Interment will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park. Albert Harold Toney, Sr.
Albert Harold Toney, Sr., 63, of McDonough, died Nov. 29. He was born in Atlanta, to the late Albert Hansel and Lucy Estelle Brady Toney. Mr. Toney was a member of Community Bible Church, where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Toney; children, Deborah Toney-Davis, McDonough, Hal Toney, Newnan, Chris Toney, Hampton; sisters, Sandra Myers, Fayetteville, Brenda Dickey, Locust Grove; grandchildren, Justin Davis, Trey Davis, Cody Toney-Wilson, Candace Toney, Courtney Toney; great-grandchildren, Kierstin and Kyla Davis.Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday at Community Bible Church, with Pastor Brooks Everett officiating. Phillip Ray Granger
Phillip Ray Granger, 64, of Forest Park, died Wednesday, Nov. 28. He was born in Sulpher, La. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Granger. Mr. Granger was a member of New Beginnings Christian Church, Griffin, and was owner and operator of Phil's Trucking Inc. He enjoyed golfing and camping, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Betty K. Hyde Granger, Forest Park; children, Deborah L. Lopez, Locust Grove, Michael Ray (Shelley) Granger, Renee (Jon) Freeman, Penny (Van) Palmer, all of McDonough; 10 grandchildren; father, Lester Burle Granger and sister, Gloria Stine, both of Vinton, La. Leslie (Les) Furber of Rex, died Nov. 29. He is survived by his mother, E.
