rsharrock@news-daily.com During the halftime festivities of the Forest Park versus Jonesboro game tonight, four of the best female athletes in Lady Cardinals' recent history will receive the ultimate honor, as Shade Smith, Shanice Smith, Jeune Hypolite and Bobbi Boyer will have their jerseys retired in front of the student body. Currently, Smith, who graduated from Jonesboro in 2005, is a member of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington's women's basketball team. The Lady Seahawks are 6-1 on the young season and Smith is averaging 6.3 points, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. "I think this is a good thing because it shows all of your accomplishments and everything you've done in high school," Smith said. Along with Smith, three current players on the volleyball team will be honored including seniors Shanice Smith, June Hypolite and Bobbi Boyer. This trio were key contributors who helped the Lady Cards to a 38-7 record and the Region 4-AAAA title. Jonesboro advanced to the second-round of the playoffs, but fell 3-1 to St. Pius.More like this story
