Accused rapist, child molester, arrested at four-star hotel

A 47-year-old fugitive has been arrested by Clayton County lawmen during his stay at the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel.

Welden Marc Gilbert, of Lake Tapps, a Seattle suburb, is wanted in Washington State on charges he raped and molested four children.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation tracked Gilbert to College Park, and to room 1004 of the four-star hotel at 1031 Virginia Ave.

An FBI agent, working with the Safe Child Task Force, contacted Clayton County Police detectives at 10:30 p.m. Because the hotel is outside of Clayton County, the detective contacted a deputy in the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy made the arrest at about 11:30 p.m., an hour after the initial phone call from the FBI.

Gilbert was arrested in his hotel room, according to the police report. He was transported to the FBI's detention facility, and will be sent back to the state of Washington to face charges.
