Mary Susan Lovvorn Smith Akridge
Mrs. Mary Susan Lovvorn Smith Akridge, 71, of McDonough, departed her earthly dwelling for her Heavenly home on Oct. 31, 2007.
She was born in Chicago, the daughter of the late Lewis and Frances Lovvorn. Sisters, Martha McKibben and Joyce Ward also preceded her in death. Susan graduated from Russell High School in 1953 and was married to Roy Smith, of Fairburn, for 30 years. Prior to staying home to raise her children, Susan worked for Standard Oil Company. She retired from DeKalb County government and enjoyed working in the yard, reading and visiting with family and friends.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of McDonough and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Susan was a self-taught pianist. She served the Lord as pianist of Meadow Baptist Church in College Park for many years. Her family shared that, "Susan's faith and her determination to overcome the physical limitations plaguing her latter years were an inspiration to us and to her friends. She lived her live bravely setting the bar high for everyone else."
Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Bonny and Ken Dewberry, of Thomaston, Ga.,; son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Donna Smith, of Dallas, Ga.; brother, Joseph Lovvorn, of Hahira, Ga.; grandchildren, Nick, Jordan, Kalob, and Travis, of Dallas, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Susan Akridge will be Sunday, Nov. 4, at 2p.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Thomas officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m, at Crystal Hill Cemetery in Thomaston, Ga.
