Billie James Waddy, 82, of Jonesboro, passed away at his home on Sept. 29, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. He was the eldest son of the late W.A. and Maude Waddy, of Hapeville, and was preceded in death by his brother, Lanny Waddy.
Billie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received while in combat in France. He retired from Life of Virginia Insurance Company. He is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Carol and Sidney Denny, Brad and Glenda Waddy, Jeff and Rhonda Waddy; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and brother, David Waddy. Memorial services will be held at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 1p.m., with the Rev. Charles Robinson presiding. The family will host a reception at the church immediately following the service. Interment for immediate family only will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sacred Journey Hospice or a charity of your choice. Cremation Society of the SOUTH (770) 692-1181.
