Another week - another Peach Belt Conference honor for Clayton State's Walid Berkhedle.
The Peach Belt Conference released their weekly honors for cross country on Tuesday, and for the fourth straight week, Berkhedle was selected as the PBC's Male Runner of the Week following a strong performance at the Brooks Memphis Twilight on Saturday.
Running in a loaded field ranging from NCAA Division I to NAIA runners, Berkhedle placed 28th overall out of a field of 341 with a time of 25:32 in the 8K event. It was the fourth-fastest time ever for a Clayton State runner in an 8K event, and Berkhedle shattered the Laker freshman 8K record which was previously held by his older brother Adil Berkhedle.
Berkhedle was third-highest Division II finisher in the meet, and the top runner from the Peach Belt in the meet.
Berkhedle will no doubt be the runner to beat in the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 20 in Augusta.
