Two men were indicted by a Clayton County grand jury on charges of sexually assaulting family members, in separate cases, Wednesday.
Kenneth Arnell Washington, Jr., an 18-year-old, full-time student, was charged with incest, rape and cruelty to children, in the indictment passed down Wednesday.
Prosecutors allege Washington assaulted a 4-year-old girl in his home in July and "did maliciously cause ... excessive pain." The 4-year-old was brought to Hughes-Spalding Medical Center after she told her mother of a burning sensation.
Doctors determined the young girl had contracted gonorrhea.
She told investigators she was asleep with Washington in the family's Jonesboro-area, Tara Boulevard apartment, when he awakened her with an inappropriate touch.
The girl, who isn't being named because of her age and the nature of the alleged crime, said, "STOP," according to documents filed in Clayton County court. He said, "Shhhhhh," and continued to assault the child.
The 4-year-old told investigators, "It hurted."
Washington allegedly confessed to the assault, and wrote out a statement, according to documents in the Magistrate Court Clerk's office.
"I didn't know I had gonorrhea," Washington wrote. "I apologize to [my family] for my actions and [it] will not happen again. I love everyone and I never thought I would do anything like this. Please accept my apology and welcome me back into the house."
Washington was indicted on six counts relating to the assault. A court date has not yet been set.
In the other grand jury action, Rodney James Russaw, a 36-year-old Jonesboro man, was indicted on charges including aggravated assault, sodomy, rape and family violence.
Prosecutors and police allege Russaw pointed a gun at his wife and raped her in 2004. The woman is not being named because of the nature of the alleged crimes.
According to the grand jury's indictment, passed down Wednesday, Russaw allegedly forced his way into the home, off of Iron Gate Boulevard, with the intent to rape his wife, in July 2004.
Russaw allegedly hit the woman in the face, dragged her around the house and forced her into lewd acts. His trial date has not yet been set.
