As spring arrives, the American Red Cross is in need of platelets and blood, particularly O and B blood types.
During April, in an effort to get more people to donate their blood, the American Red Cross is sponsoring "Donate and Do Disney."
The promotion offers donors between April 1 and April 30 the chance to enter into a drawing for a trip for four to Disney World in Orlando. The prize package includes round-trip airfare on Delta Air Lines, a three-night stay at the Clarion Hotel Universal, Orlando, and four two-day passes to Disney World.
Official blood drives will take place at the following locations in April: In Jonesboro - April 20, 12-5 p.m., First Christian Church, 2272 Walt Stephens Road; April 28, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Jonesboro High School, 7728 Mt. Zion Blvd.; April 29, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Clayton County Police Headquarters, 7911 N. McDonough St.; April 24, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Morrow High School, 2299 Old Rex Road.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, in generally good health, and at least 110 pounds. Blood can be donated every 56 days, and platelets can be donated every two weeks, up to 26 times per year. To schedule an appointment to donate or learn more about giving blood, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.
