Ruby Rowell

Mrs. Ruby Aline Strickland Brown Rowell, 84, of Peachtree City, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008. She was born Sept. 1, 1923 in Jonesboro, to the late Thomas Gary and Minnie Lois Waddy Strickland.

She retired from the Fayette County School System, devoting many years to the nutritional care of students. She was preceded in death by Edwin M. Brown, Sr., William E. Rowell, Sr, and son, Gary Eulan Brown.

Most affectionately known as "Mama Brown," she is survived by sons, Edwin M. Brown, Jr., (Marion) of Demorest, Ga., Bela Thomas Brown, of Carrabelle, Fla., Cecil Everette Brown, of Peachtree City; daughters, Lena Patricia Ray (Ricky), of Peachtree City, and Lila Brown Teal (Gary), of Sharpsburg, Ga.; Grandchildren, Chad Everette Brown, of Norcross, Lois Rachel Brown Westlake (Michael), of Senoia, Tobias Lee Teal (Allyson), of Atlanta, and Andrew Thomas Teal (Ashley), of Sharpsburg; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Jackson Teal and Aubrey Lane Westlake, and her favorite, four-legged companion, Bailey.

Aline had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she taught Sunday School for much of her life. She was involved in many mission trips, and just a few years ago, she was involved in roofing homes for the poor in Costa Rica.

Traveling was a passionate hobby of Aline's, and she went around the world in the air, on cruises, and on the road with the Scotties - her traveling buddies.A highlight for her was attending her grandson's wedding last summer in Philadelphia.Aline loved golf and could still swing the clubs with vigor up until a few months ago. Another favorite hobby was playing Scrabble with neighbors. Aline lived life to the fullest and with great passion.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m., at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, with Senior Pastor Charles F. Robinson officiating.

Infant Hayden Anderson Marchant

Infant Hayden Anderson Marchant, of Jackson, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008. He was born June 12, 2008 in Riverdale. Hayden is survived by his parents, Keith and Jennifer Marchant, of Jackson; grandparents, Don and Vickie McCullars, of Griffin, Terry and Becky Marchant, of McDonough, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

William Newton Lindsey

Mr. William Newton Lindsey, 84, of Locust Grove, passed away Aug. 8, 2008. He was the son of the late Irene Kimbell and Charles Daniel Lindsey. Newton was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed golf and gardening. He was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church where he served in all areas of the church, from youth leader to Chairman of the Board.

Newton served his country in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Tingle, and a brother, Jake Lindsey.

Survivors are his loving wife, Ruth Turner Lindsey, of Locust Grove; children, Bill and Peggy Lindsey, of Columbia, S.C., Teri and Jack Woodford, of Yorktown, Va.; grandchildren, Chad Lindsey, of Columbia, Brigette Lindsey, of Charleston, and Michele Woodford, of Yorktown, Va.; sister, Helen White, of North Carolina, and sister-in-law, Lorene Lindsey, of Locust Grove; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Newton Lindsey will be Monday, Aug. 11, at 11a.m., at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Gilreath officiating.Interment will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery.

Drifton C. Powell

Drifton C. Powell, 81, of Stockbridge, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008. He was born in Pelham, Ga., to the late Claude and Hattie Mae Wilson Powell. Mr. Powell was a member of Henry Baptist Church. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. But most important, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorene Powell; children, Trudie (Richard) Sykes and Travis (Rhonda) Powell, all of Stockbridge; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Reuben Powell, of Schenectady, N.Y., Peggy Piland, of Albany, Ga., Jeannine Banks, of Pelham, Ga., Joy Kapantais, of Commerce City, Colo., and Patricia Beckit, of Gray, Maine.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 10, at The Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with the Rev. Archie Norman and Ron Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
