Barbara Viera Thomas

Mrs. Barbara Viera Thomas, 57, died Aug. 8, 2008 at her residence in Palmetto, Ga., following an illness of two years.

Barbara was born Sept. 26, 1950 in Providence, R.I. She was the daughter of Frank Viera, of Winder, Ga., and Marian Vitullo Viera, of Miami, Fla. Until 1999, she was a school bus driver for Fulton County, a position she had held for ten years.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Gregg Thomas, whom she was married Nov. 6, 1971 in Miami. Also surviving are her children, Stephanie Buquoi and her husband, Andre, of Senoia, Ga., Michelle Lindsay and her husband, Mark, of Palmetto; brothers, Steve Viera, of Gay, Ga., and Rick Viera, of Palm Bay, Fla.; grandchildren, Ashtyn, Lily and Emma Buquoi, Kala, Noah and Katelyn Lindsay.

Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street in Newnan, where the family received friends on Monday, Aug. 1, 6-8 p.m., The funeral service will be on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m., in the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Dana Messman

Mr. Gary Dana Messman, of Rex, died Saturday Aug. 9, 2008 at Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge.

Born on Nov. 22, 1948, in Fairmont, W.Va, he was the son of the late Dana Thomas Messman and Julia Beryl Anderson Messman. Mr. Messman was a former Marine, who worked as a policeman in Clayton County, and as a fireman for the City of Atlanta for many years. He saved the lives of several people during this time.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Messman, of Rex; daughters and sons-in-law, Brandie L. and Chad Matthews, of Barnesville, Kasey and Chuck Howard, of Jackson; grandchildren, Briana L. Moore, C.J. Matthews, Austin Matthews, Jakob Howard, Hunter Howard; sisters, Joyce Wilson and Shay Wade, both of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Elsie Messman, of California, Butch and Susie Messman, of Malena, Ga.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sid Bailey officiating. Wheeler Funeral Home and Crematory, (770) 786-7111, Covington, Ga.
