A prominent lawmaker from Georgia is expected to make an appearance in Henry County this weekend. U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson will speak Saturday at the Moose Lodge, located at 91 Hunter's Chase in McDonough.
The event, which is scheduled to begin with a breakfast at 9 a.m., is sponsored by the Henry County Republican Party. Local GOP Chairman Bill Herndon said he is looking forward to welcoming the senator to the area, and added that recent talks with Isakson indicate the feeling is mutual. Herndon, who was elected chairman earlier this month, said the purpose of the program goes beyond political party lines. "This event is not just for Republicans," said Herndon. "This is for all residents of Henry County. We need to have good communication with those who represent us in [the U.S. Congress]. This breakfast is part of a continuing effort to [do that]." Herndon said at the conclusion of remarks by the senator, Isakson will take questions on several topics, including the war in Iraq, energy policy, immigration and national security.
