BOE to hold called meeting, hear public input

Thursday

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold a called meeting on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m. It will be followed by the board's monthly Public Participation meeting at 7 p.m. Both meetings will take place at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. Zion Parkway, Jonesboro.

Saturday

Clayton State University professors Dr. Brigitte Byrd and Phillip DePoy will read selections from their published works on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the 2008 Decatur Book Festival, at the downtown Decatur Square. Both professors will appear at the Java Monkey Local Authors Stage. DePoy will read from his recently published novel, "The Drifter's Wheel" at 12:15 p.m., while Byrd will read selections from her recently published book of poetry, "The Dazzling Land." Clayton State University biology professor Dr. Jared Taglialatela will appear on The History Channel series "Evolve," on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 10 p.m. Check local listings to see which channel The History Channel airs on.

The United States Air Force has announced that Airman Dale T. Raulerson, a 2007 graduate of Forest Park High School, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During his training, Raulerson studied the Air Force mission; military customs and courtesies; rifle marksmanship; field training exercises, and human relations. Raulerson also earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Rebecca Raulerson, and nephew of Nora Roberson, of Forest Park.

The United States Air Force recently announced Airman Shavon A. Adams, a 2004 graduate of Mount Zion High School, has graduated from a six-week basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During her training, Adams studied the Air Force mission; military customs and courtesies; rifle marksmanship; field training exercises, and human relations. She is the daughter of Susanne Henry, of Riverdale.

Minus, brother of Jonesboro resident Tenay Minus and son of Angela Lowther of Newport News, Va., has graduated from a six-week basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During his training, Minus studied the Air Force mission; military customs and courtesies; rifle marksmanship; field training exercises, and human relations.

The United States Army National Guard recently announced Pvt. David M. Wendlandt, son of Riverdale resident Karen Katz, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During his training, Wendlandt studied basic combat skills; military weapons; chemical warfare; rifle marksmanship; map reading; field tactics; the military justice system, and basic first aid.
