Mrs. Sybil Johnson, of Forest Park, passed away Aug. 27, 2008 at the age of 69.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m., at New Testament Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Jonesboro City Cemetery. The Rev. Curtis Turner will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday, from 5 p.m., to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson his survived by her husband, Boyce Johnson; daughters, Delores Ann and Greg Drake, of Newnan, Rhonda Marie and Berny Lopez, of Forest Park; sister, Myra Ruth Ellenburg, of Greenville S.C.; grandchildren, Sarah Grace Drake, Harrison Drake and Jessica Johnson. Brenda Filbey Cox
Mrs. Brenda Filbey Cox, of Jonesboro, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.
Brenda was truly a shining light to the world. Her positive outlook and infectious smile lifted the spirits of all she encountered. he served for more than 20 years as the receptionist at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.Her sweet voice and British accent added to the warmth with which she made all feel welcome as she greeted callers to the church.
In addition, she found great joy in her many years of singing in the choir, greeting the children and their families on Sunday mornings, and serving as a volunteer child advocate with the Clayton County Juvenile Court system. But most of all, she genuinely loved tending her garden and spending time with her family and friends.
Brenda was born Nov. 4, 1938 in Hammersmith, England. She was the daughter of William Herbert and Temperance Nellie Tuck-Tasker Filbey. She met her husband, Jim, on a blind date while he was stationed in England with the U.S. Air Force. They married in England where they resided until after the birth of their first child. Brenda and Jim have enjoyed a loving partnership of 50 years of marriage, serving the Lord together.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Jim Cox; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Scott Lee, of Fayetteville; sons, Michael Cox and partner, Kevin Roush, of Charleston, S.C., and Robin Cox, of Atlanta; grandchildren, Rebekah Lee Sanders, Nathaniel Lee and Catherine Lee; and brothers, Barry (Madeleine) Filbey, of Jonesboro, and Derek Filbey, of Orebro, Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Denis Filbey.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m., to 11 a.m., in St. James Place at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. A memorial service will follow in the Worship Center at 11 a.m., with Dr. Charles Q. Carter, the Rev. Irvin Pearre and the Rev. Paul Camp officiating. Marie Flowers, 90, of McDonough (formerly of Riverdale), passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008. Mrs. Flowers was a member of Jonesboro Church of God. She is survived by her husband, Charlie J. Flowers; sons, Charles Richard and Nelda Flowers, of McDonough, Thomas R. and Helen Flowers, of Acworth; 6 grandchildren, Kellie Dodgen, of Baton Rouge, La., Karla Avery, of Hampton, Donna Lynn Flowers, of McDonough, Cindy Cross, of Covington, Charles R. Flowers, of McDonough, Hope Hinto-Lashley, of Sockbridge, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug, 29, at 2 p.m., at Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel in Jonesboro, with Rev. Danny Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro.
