Legendary basketball coach A.C. McCullers apparently hasn't lost his touch.
The former coach at Morrow and Union Grove high schools, as well as Clayton State University, is on the verge of turning the Strong Rock girls basketball team into a GISA power in Class AA.
Tuesday night, Strong Rock stepped up in classification and knocked off Christian Fellowship, the No. 1-ranked team in GISA Class AAA, 47-44.
The victory moved Strong Rock Christian to 6-0.
Jessica Anderson and Christina Bridges each finished the game with 11 points.
The victory against Christian Fellowship comes on the heels of winning the Heritage Bank Classic holiday tournament.
In the championship of the holiday tournament, Strong Rock knocked off Harvester Christian 63-42.
Strong Rock's Ebony Brown was the MVP and Anderson and Bridges were on the All- Tournament team.
· Morrow 43, East Coweta 42: Chatil Bradford led the Mustangs with 13 points to help Morrow open Region 4-AAAAA play with a close win Tuesday night at East Coweta.
· Mary Persons 52, Woodland 38: The Wolfpack couldn't overcome Mary Persons' Benedria Colbert's 19 points that helped the Bulldogs spoil the Wolfpack's Region 4-AAA opener Tuesday night.
Jill Moore led Woodland (0-4, 0-1) with nine points. Diamond Sneed, Destinee Cherry and Myla Ruffin each had six points.
Griffin 52, Stockbridge 48 (OT): The Lady Tigers fell to the Bears on Tuesday to open its Region 4-AAAA schedule with a loss.
Darius Tookes led all scorers with 14 points to lead Woodland to its first-ever region victory, 37-35, at Mary Persons in a Region 4-AAA game Tuesday.
Elliot Davis scored 10 points for the Wolfpack (5-0, 1-0).
Rocktavious Zellner led Mary Persons (1-1, 0-1) with 10 points.
· MORROW 70, EAST COWETA 66: Sean Stringfellow had a game-high 27 points as the Mustangs extended its season-opening winning streak to six games Tuesday night in a Region 4-AAAAA game at East Coweta.
Tony Dukes added 23 for Morrow (6-0, 1-0).
· OLA 60, Mt. Zion 53: The Ola boys basketball team (2-2) opened its Region 4-AAAA season with a 60-53 victory against Mt. Zion. The Mustangs were paced by Tim Mason with 20 points and Jessie Jenkins with 16. Mt. Zion was led by Steven Wilson and Karon Hodge with 11 each.
Stockbridge 75, Griffin 50: Dante Campbell led the Tigers with 23 points to open its Region 4-AAAA schedule with a win at Griffin Tuesday night.
Adonis Durden had 14 points, six steals and four assists for Stockbridge (4-1, 1-0). Chris Davis added 10 points.
