A local charity is gearing up for a fund-raiser to be held this weekend, benefiting a number of organizations for children.
The Race to the Holidays will be held at The Garage at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton Saturday, from 10 a.m., to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the event will go toward Speedway Children's Charities (SWC), and the Metro South Association of Realtors Education Foundation.
Scheduled activities include a family festival, with arts and crafts from local vendors, games for children, and pictures with Santa Claus. Local choirs, bands and dancers are also scheduled to perform throughout the day .
Shaun Birindelli is the director of the Atlanta chapter of SWC. She says the occasion will provide a "wonderful" time for families in attendance, and particularly children who need to get caught up on their holiday shopping lists.
"We will have a Secret Santa Shop, where kids can go in and buy presents for their family members at a minimal cost," she says. "The gifts will also be wrapped, so the kids don't have to hide them from mom or dad. They can put them right under their Christmas tree."
SWC raises money each year for groups, including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as for cancer research and other causes. According to Birindelli, all funds generated through Saturday's event will be used in Henry County.
The cost of admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for teenagers. Children, aged 12 and under, will be admitted free of charge.
