Young People Concert set for Thursday

Ritmo Blu, an energetic percussion trio, will be presenting two Young People's Concerts at Spivey Hall on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 9:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Ritmo Blu's program celebrates the world's winter holidays, including Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. The Clayton County Emergency Management department is now offering Community Emergency Response Team training. In the CERT classes, emergency personnel train community members to respond to disasters. The classes will be from Jan. 6-29, every Tuesday and Thursday night, with an exercise on Jan. 31. Morrow's Reynolds Nature Preserve will have its annual Yule Nature Celebration on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. The annual outdoor holiday festival will include music, refreshments, hot cocoa (bring your own mug), tree decorating, a candlelit trail, a bonfire, storytelling, and the search for the yule log. The annual Clayton State University First Lego League Robotics Tournament will be held in the Baker Center from 9 a.m., to 5 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 13. Join 28 middle school teams from across the state as they embark on an exploration of the earth's climate in the Climate Connections Challenge. Discover the links between science, people, resources and communities. Unearth how we learn about past climates and delve into questions surrounding our current and future climatic conditions.

AMERIGROUP Community Care presents the "ultimate community baby shower," celebrating expectant mothers in the community, on Saturday, Dec. 13. The three choirs of the Spivey Hall Children's Choir Program will welcome Christmas with concerts on Friday, Dec. 12, featuring the Spivey Hall Young Artists and the Spivey Hall Children's Choir, and on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14, with the Children's Choir and its most advanced singers, the Spivey Hall Tour Choir. The Friday concert, conducted by Craig Hurley and Dr. Martha Shaw, with Steven Wooddell and Judy Mason on the piano, will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25. The Saturday and Sunday concerts, also conducted by Shaw, with Mason on piano, will both start at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25.

The Army Ground Forces Band will perform its 23rd annual Holiday Concert at the Georgia World Congress Center, 3 p.m., Dec. 14.
