BOE member hosting legal spelling contest

Clayton County Board of Education member Michael King will host the eighth annual Michael B. King Spelling Legal Bee on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 9 a.m., at the Comfort Inn and Suites Airport North, 1419 Virginia Ave., College Park.

The spelling contest is designed to give elementary and middle school students an opportunity to learn legal terms and concepts, according to King. There will be a category for elementary students, and one for middle school students.

A total of $840 will be given to the top seven finishers in both age categories.

The monetary prize include $150 (first place); $100 (second place), $75 (third place), $50 (fourth place), $25 (fifth place), $15 (sixth place), and $5 (seventh place). King says he provides the prizes.

The Michael B. King Spelling Legal Bee was started in 2001 with 16 participants. In 2007, it grew to more than 50 students. The official deadline to enter the competition was on Wednesday. However, King did not fax the press release, announcing the competition and its deadline to the Clayton News Daily until Wednesday afternoon. The attorney said he will still accept entry forms on Friday, however. There is no cost to enter the competition.

Contact King at (770)478-3555, to participate.
