The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its first business meeting of 2009 on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., in the Central Administration Complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro. Jan. 15 Clayton State University will commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., with a program entitled "Remembering the King," on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 11:30 a.m., in the university's Lawson Amphitheater, next to Swan Lake and Spivey Hall. Jan. 19 Clayton State University will hold its Seventh Annual Freedom Run 10K and 5K road races on Monday, Jan. 19, at 9 a.m., on the university's Morrow Campus. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m., in Clayton State's Athletics and Fitness Center. The cost will be $20. Runners registering before Jan. 11, will receive a discount rate of $15. Internet registration is possible on the web site of http://www.rungeorgia.com/freedomrun.html. Jan. 20 Clayton State University's Student Government Association will host a presidential inauguration viewing party on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m., in the university's Student Activities Center, so the community can watch President-elect Barack Obama be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. Ongoing The Clayton County Public Library system offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams.
