The New Year's Eve fireworks got started a little early Wednesday at an Olive Garden restaurant in Morrow, when a storage area for linens, located right behind the restaurant, caught on fire.
The fire began at approximately 3:30 p.m., and there were about 20 people in the restaurant, located at 1176 Mount Zion Road, said Morrow Fire Department Chief Mark W. Herendeen.
Diners had to wait, for a period, outside the restaurant.
Chief Herendeen said it took firefighters "about five minutes" to get the fire under control, and that the restaurant soon re-opened.
According to Herendeen, the fire caused little damage to the restaurant, but the 4-foot- by-15-foot storage area was "completely destroyed" by the blaze. The storage area was surrounded by a wooden privacy fence.
"It didn't breach the wall of the restaurant," said Herendeen. "The repairs will be more cosmetic work, such as patching and painting, but they are really lucky."
The chief said it was an "unintentional fire," although an exact cause had not been determined.
