Stockbridge man wins '500 large'

Harry Curtis, a FedEx truck driver from Stockbridge, won $500,000 playing the Georgia Lottery instant game, Jumbo Jumbo Bucks.

"I could only say, 'Wow!,' " said Curtis, who celebrates his 48th birthday today, on Valentine's Day.

Curtis scratched the ticket in the Amoco Food Shop, located at 4531 Old Dixie Highway in Forest Park, and discovered he had bought the top-prize ticket.

Curtis, a husband of 17 years and the father of an 8-year-old daughter, plans to purchase a new home with his winnings.

He said he has always been lucky. He won $1,000 last week playing the instant game, Georgia's $500 Million Club.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $9.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education.

Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-kindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
