Brandon Dennis Partain

Brandon Dennis Partain, 25, of McDonough, died Dec. 31, 2007. Brandon was born in Clayton County. He was a fun loving, big-hearted person who always smiled and laughed. He enjoyed skateboarding, fishing, and was known to his niece and nephew as "Unk B."

Brandon was a member of the Community Bible Church for many years. His grandfather, Dennis Willis Partain, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Brenda Partain, of McDonough; sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Ryan Plunkett, of Locust Grove; niece and nephew, Brayden and Lilly Plunkett, of Locust Grove; maternal grandmother, Mary McDaniel, of McDonough; paternal grandparents, Bruce and Vada Barnes, of Sevierville, Tenn.; aunt, Dianne and Kenneth Miller, of McDonough, and uncle, Marcus Harrison of, Jonesboro.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m., at the Community Bible Church, with Pastor Beau Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. William A. Gafford

William A. Gafford, 83, of McDonough, died Dec. 31, 2007 at Dogwood Forest. He was born in Thomasville, Ga., to the late Durwood Leonard and Annie Livingston Gafford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Pauline McLeskey Gafford. He was a teacher at Henry County High School for 30 years, pastor of the Sardis Baptist Church for 10 years, and he was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be TODAY (Friday, Jan. 4) at 2 p.m., from Bethany Baptist Church, with the Rev. Al O'Quinn officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Bertha Florine Turner

Bertha Florine Turner, 104, of McDonough, died Jan. 1. Miss Turner was born in Henry County, Ga., the daughter of the late Adella Abi Fargason and William Jefferson Turner. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sister, James Roy Turner, Rosa Lou Turner Russell, Jefferson Blakely Turner, and Roderick Greer Turner; and by one niece, Mrs. Julia Turner Low, of Jacksonville, Fla.; as well as three nephews, Roderick Greer Turner, Jr., of Jonesboro, William Leslie Turner, of Houston, Texas, and James Roy Turner, Jr., of McDonough.

Miss Turner was an active member of Turner United Methodist Church from her youth until her 99th year, when her church members dedicated a Sunday service to her and encouraged her to "Go for a 100." Miss Turner attended Wesleyan College, Macon, Ga., where she graduated in 1925. That same year, she began teaching her major, English, in Gainesville, Ga. She was teaching senior English there for 30 years and left to teach senior English for 13 more years in Griffin, Ga. She retired in 1968 with a total of 43 years service to Georgia students, some of whom were still in touch with her.

Her survivors include a nephew, Tom Rivers Turner (Doris), of Memphis, Tenn.; six great-nephews and six great-nieces, who together with their 27 children and grandchildren are pleased to speak of her as "Great Aunt Bertha" which they do with loving pride. For them, she is the best role model and inspiration for living "the good life." Included are: Mrs. Susan T. Turner, III, (Alix), of Levenworth, Kan., Ms. Elissabeth (Lisa) C. Turner, of Memphis, Mrs. Monty R. Pantz (Terri), of Cordova, Tenn., Mrs. Clayton Garet (Claudia), of Jasper, Ga., Mr. Ron R. Turner (Marty), of Magnolia, Texas, Mr. L. Lee Turner (Angelia), of League City, Texas, Mr. Merrel C. Low (past), of Foley, Ala., Mr. James R. Turner, III, (Fran), and Mr. J. Blakely Turner, II (Carol), of McDonough, Ga. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 5, at The Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Michael O'Johns officiating. Interment will follow at McDonough City Cemetery. Those who wish, may make a donation in her memory to a charity of their choice.
