George Douglas Burk
George Douglas Burk, of McDonough, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, died unexpectedly of coronary complications on Jan. 9.
He was born June 28, 1952. Known as Doug to his family and friends, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Doughty, of McDonough, and his children, Amanda Burk Mitchell, of Montgomery, Ala., and Kristopher Douglas Burk, of Warner Robins, Ga. He has one granddaughter, Molly Elisabeth Mitchell. Doug is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Reid Burk, of Hayneville, Ala. He has one sister, Charlotte Blake, of Montgomery, Ala. and one brother, Oscar Burk, of Alpharetta, Ga. There are many nieces and nephews.
He was an avid Auburn football fan and dedicated season ticket holder. To his Auburn family, he was known as AUTigertown. Doug had many interests, including the PT Cruiser Club where he earned the nickname Aucrzr. His award-winning car was recognized throughout Alabama and Georgia. Racing his 1969 Chevelle was another favorite pastime. One could always find Doug taking pictures and building web sites on his computer. He was retired from government, civilian service after 35 years and a veteran of the United States Army.
Graveside Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m., at Old Conyers City Cemetery in Conyers, Ga. Friends may visit the family Friday evening from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday morning from 10-12 noon, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Tigers Unlimited, P.O.
