The United States Army recently announced Pvt. Anthony M. Lightfoot, a 2007 graduate of Riverdale High School, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. During his training, Lightfoot studied the Army mission, history, core values and traditions; military justice; first aid; rifle marksmanship; map reading and land navigation, and combat training. He is the son of Lyvonne Lightfoot, a resident of Riverdale.

During her training, Cook studied the Army mission, history, core values and traditions; military justice; first aid; rifle marksmanship; map reading and land navigation, and combat training.
The University of Georgia recently announced Jonesboro residents Paloma Baldovinos, a graduate of Lovejoy High School, and Kieu Nguyen, a graduate of Jonesboro High School, received One UGA scholarships for their academic achievements, and the diversity they will contribute to their freshman class at UGA. The scholarship is worth $1,500 per year.
Clayton County Public Schools is seeking 1,000 volunteers to greet students as they arrive for the first day of school, on Aug. 7, also known as Day One. The volunteers are tasked with offering a friendly smile to students as they arrive, hand a pupil a pen or a pencil, and offer a few words of encouragement.
