A local band is scheduled to perform this weekend in Henry County, at an event officials say is sure to offer "excitement" for those in attendance.
The Doc Driver Band will be part of Music on the Square in McDonough Saturday.
The group is expected to play songs from its varied repertoire, which includes Southern and classic rock, as well as country, R&B and alternative music.
The Henry County-based group has performed at several events hosted by the Main Street McDonough program, and has made several appearances since the music series began six years ago.
Casey Case, media relations specialist for the City of McDonough, calls the band "solid," and says it creates "excitement" for the audience. "They have always brought ... a variety of music types to their performance," says Case. "When you have a large audience - and Music on the Square usually draws a very large crowd - you have a diverse preference in music," she says. "A band that can play a variety of styles ... can give something for everyone. They have a great sound, and they're a good, solid band."
Case says the band's upcoming performance is part of an ongoing effort by the city to provide local residents with exposure to local cultural offerings. This, she says, is particularly important in a growing area like McDonough.
"Main Street McDonough and tourism have all contributed heavily to the cultural arts, and the development here in our beautiful city," says Case. "Folks have really been receptive to [the Main Street program]. They're looking for entertainment, and they certainly enjoy [it] in such a beautiful setting."
The Doc Driver Band will perform from 7 p.m., to 10 p.m. For more information, visit www.docdriverband.com.
