Master Sgt. Mitchell W. Young

Master Sgt. Mitchell W. Young died on July 13, while on a reconnaissance mission in southern Afghanistan. Mitch was on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan at the time of his death. A Jonesboro High School graduate, the son of Jane Young and the late "Dutch" Young, Mitch attended North Georgia College, after which he joined the Army in 1991. In 1999, he became a member of Special Forces and earned his "Green Beret."

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 31, at Pristine Chapel, 7541 Mt. Zion Blvd., Jonesboro. Mitch is survived by his wife, Robyn, of Fayetteville, N.C.; his mother, Jane, of Jonesboro; sister, Cheryl, of Peachtree City; brother, Brent, of Decatur; and several nieces and one nephew.

Judy C. Payne

James H. "Big Jim" Neal

James H. "Big Jim" Neal, 83, of Rex, passed away on July 27, 2008. He owned and operated Big Jim's Body Shop. He is survived by his children: Diedra Feeney, Debra Bradley, Richard Neal, Wendell (Dell) Neal; sisters, Cora (Pansy) Robertson, Mary (Sammy) Hillhouse; brother, George (Goose) Neal; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mr. Neal will be held on Wednesday, July 30, at 6 p.m., at The Village Church, 3621 W. Jodeco Road, McDonough, Ga., with Pastor Ray Waters officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Altus Hospice in Sandy Springs, Ga. Horis A. Jeppie Anne McKay Barnes

Jeppie Anne McKay Barnes, 78, of Riverdale, passed away on July 25, 2008. Mrs. Barnes worked as a secretary for many years at Riverdale Radiator. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Barnes. Survivors include her son, Mike (Debra) Barnes, of Jonesboro; daughter Robbie Richardson, of Riverdale; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Charles McKay, of McDonough; sisters, Jean Vick, of Douglasville, and Grace McKay, of Rome, Ga. Juanita K. Hambrick

Juanita K. Hambrick, of Decatur, formerly of Jonesboro, died Monday, July 28, 2008. She was the owner of the Jonesboro Antique Shoppe. The family will hold a memorial service - to be announced later in this paper - at the First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro. A. S. Turner & Sons.
