Mrs. Lillian O. Eldridge
Mrs. Lillian O. Eldridge, 87, of Forest Park, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008. She is survived by her grandson, Bret (Kim) Eldridge, of McDonough; granddaughter, Deah (Jim) Harris, of Locust Grove; great-grandchildren, Vance Harris, Conner Eldridge, and Madison Eldridge; nieces, Geraldine Noon, of North Carolina, and Dorothy White, of Covington. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, at Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 17, 6 to 8 pm. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel.
James Winston Porter
(Lt. Col-U.S. Army Ret.)
James Winston Porter (Lt. Col-U.S. Army Ret.), of Morrow, was born Dec. 13, 1920 and passed away on June 15, 2008. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 19, at 2 p.m., at Pope Dickson and Son-Morrow Chapel. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 18, 6-9 p.m.
He was the son of the late Dion W. Porter and Aretta Georgia Neville Porter, of Necedah, Wis. He graduated from Necedah High School and attended the University of Wisconsin. He entered the Army in 1940. Mr. Porter was stationed on various Pacific Islands from 1942-1944 and was involved in the Midway Sea Battle. After graduating from Quarter-master Officers Candidate School, he filled many posts in the U.S. and abroad, including in Korea and Germany. After 25 years of service, he elected not to remain on active duty and joined the federal civil service, which eventually led him to an assignment with the Atlanta office of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). He retired as the Deputy Chief of that office achieving the significant rank of GM 14. His DLA assignment required extensive travel worldwide, inspecting and investigating logistics operations of all military services.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Weylandt Porter, and son, Jeffrey W. Porter, three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by a nephew and eleven nieces, a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Pope Dickson & Son, Morrow Chapel is in charge of the arrangements, (770) 961-2700.
Shirley Ann Barber Millwood, born Dec. 11, 1938 in Atlanta, passed away on June 15, 2008 at 4:20 p.m. She is survived by her Husband, Earl Millwood; daughters, Loretta Eskew and Janie Little; sons; Jesse Millwood and Joe Millwood; brother; Rickey Barber; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Shirley was an active member of the Stockbridge Community. She founded the 1st Girl Scout Troop in Stockbridge and was a Leader of many young women in our community. She was also a member of the Lads & Lassies Square Dancing Group for many years. She was a member of the Awesome Blossom, and Red Hatters, of Stockbridge. Shirley will be remembered by her many friends for her optimism about life.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 18, from Ward's Fairview Chapel in Stockbridge. Interment will follow in Sandy Springs, Ga. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 17, from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Horis A. Ward-Fairview Chapel is in charge of arrangements, (770) 474-1231.
