Cedric Scott, chief of the College Park Fire Department, will be recognized for his education, experience, competencies, professional development and community involvement.
He will receive the honor in Denver, Colo., on Aug. 14, during the annual awards dinner at the Center for Public Safety Excellence, according to a statement issued by the city. Scott joined the College Park Fire Department last December. A Macon native, he has been a firefighter since 1987. He has served in the Waycross, Ga., fire department and in the Macon-Bibb County department. He was praised by the elected city officials in College Park when he was selected to head the 66-member department, as someone whose public safety experience is complemented by a lot of education. He has a Master's in Business Administration from Wesleyan College, and has also earned degrees from Gordon College, Macon State College and Mercer University. "This was very impressive during our selection process," Mayor Jack Longino said at the time. "There were many qualified candidates, but Chief Scott's experience and willingness to lead stood out." Scott said he hopes he will be remembered, in College Park, as a public servant. - Daniel SillimanMore like this story
