Albert Yu, 71, of Fayetteville, passed away Feb. 29. Dr. Yu had served his country in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in the medical corps during the Vietnam War.
He served as a general surgeon for more than 30 years at Southern Regional Medical Center. At one time during his career, he served as chief of staff for the hospital. He was a member of the Southeastern Bluegrass Association.
Above all else, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Judy Yu, of Fayetteville; daughters Michelle and Jerry Robison, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Joanna and Richard Lacey, of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren Alex and Tori Robison and Claire Lacy; sister, Loreta and Siano Chan, of Riverdale; also two sisters and a brother in the Philippines, and also nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, at Carl J. Mowell & Sons Fayetteville Chapel, with Pastor John Weber officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Walter Smith, 90, died Feb. 29, 2008.
He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Thelma C. Smith. The oldest of 12 children, he was born in Stephens County, Georgia in 1917. Walter is also predeceased by his parents and five brothers.
He is survived by two brothers and four sisters. In 1938 the north Georgia boy served in the Civilian Conversation Corp with may struggling to survive the Great Depression. There in the hills of North Carolina he met his future wife. Walter was a WWII veteran. He worked as a civil servant at the Atlanta Army Depot in Conley, Ga. Walter and Thelma made their home in Stockbridge, Ga. for more than 55 years. He is survived by sons, Charles and Ralph Smith; and daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Paul O'Brien, Reba and Richard Ordonez; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel with Rev. Paul Leslie officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Monday, March 3, 2008 from 2+6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sarah Frances Kirkland Gulledge
Mrs. Sarah Frances Kirkland Gulledge, age 87, of McDonough, Ga. passed away Feb. 29, 2008. Mrs. Gulledge was born in Gadsden, Ala. the daughter of the late Jessie Adams and John Kirkland. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother who enjoyed her family, friends, serving in her church, sewing, being a southern cook and had a favorite hobby of collecting pigs. Mrs. Gulledge was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Anderson Gulledge and a sister, Naomi Smith. Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rodney Wise of McDonough; step sons, Jerry Gulledge of Loganville and Joe Gulledge of Decatur; 2 grandchildren, Vicki Budden of McDonough and Melvin Wise of Redford, MI; 6 great grandchildren, Tana, Amber, Jonathan, Emily, Jacob and Ethan; 5 great-great grandchildren, Brandon, Rebecca, Hunter, Lexi, and Caden; sister, Clara Tolbert of Gadsden, Ala.; several nieces and nephews. Bonnie Belle James Baxter
Mrs. Bonnie Belle James Baxter, age 84, of Stockbridge, Ga. passed away March 2, 2008. Mrs. Baxter was born in Clearwater, Fla. the daughter of the late Hallie Virginia Strawn and Carl Hasting James. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville, N.C., a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 214 of Statesville and she volunteered with Statesville Hospital. She enjoyed needlepoint, crafts, cooking and traveling. Mrs. Baxter was preceded in death by several siblings. Survivors are her husband, Herman James of Stockbridge; children, Tim C. Baxter (Trina) of Hampton, Ga. and Patricia King (Chris) of McDonough, Ga.; grandchildren, Tiffany Baxter, Tassie Baxter and Jesse King; brother, Robert James of Alachua, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
