Christians are alive in Christ! - James C. Bell

God created man in His own image and breathed life into him, and he became a living being.

I can just imagine how handsome and perfect His creation was, because he was made in the image of God, and also, we know God doesn't make mistakes.

God must have been pleased with this first man, for He made so many good things for him. He created a beautiful garden for Adam, filled with trees of every kind and they all produced fruit that was good to eat. He also created all the creatures of the Earth and gave Adam power and dominion over them.

When He saw that Adam needed a mate and there was none found suitable, God created woman to live with Adam and work with him in the garden. He gave them His first command: "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

We all know the rest of the story. Adam and Eve listened to the serpent -- Satan -- and ate the fruit of the forbidden tree. Thus, they sinned by ignoring the command of God. This first sin is especially significant, because it made death come into the life of mankind. Adam was once eternal, like God, but now mortal, and his death was certain.

The Bible says, in Romans 6:23, "The wages (penalty) of sin is death." We are all born into sin. We have a sinful nature and will live in sin -- rebellion against God -- until we are saved by the love of God.

Ephesians 2-10 says, "For it is by grace (God's love) you have been saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

I want you to read all of Ephesians Chapter 2, for in it, St. Paul gives a great explanation of how sinners are forgiven their sins and, thus, made "Alive in Christ!"

Notice, in particular, verses 4 and 5 which say, "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions. It is by grace you have been saved."

When a person is willing to admit his sin, believe in God and repent of his sin by asking God to forgive his sins, through Jesus Christ, then he or she is "saved" from death and Hell, completely forgiven of all sin.

The Bible says in 1st John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Please read also Colossians 2:13: "When you were dead in your sins, God made you alive with Jesus Christ. He forgave us all our sins." Our great God tells us in Hebrews 8:12, "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

As we are saved by the great love of God and the sacrifice of Christ and begin to grow spiritually, there are many things we must learn, and among the most important is to forgive ourselves of the wrongs we have done.

So many people have faith in God and accept Christ as Savior and His complete forgiveness, but do not forgive themselves. They go through life with guilt about past wrongs. This will cause them to spend the rest of their lives dealing with doubt, discouragement and defeat.

When one is saved, he has a new nature in Christ, one of obedience, love and loyalty to God. Christ enables us to live without sin. Christ has cancelled all judgments against us, including the condemnation of sin. He has set us free from sin.

Rejoice and live a positive, full life for Him -- Christ -- who died that we might be, "Alive in Christ!"

I pray you will choose life and Jesus Christ today. Amen!
