Schools to release students early on the last day

Friday

Clayton County Public Schools will have a shortened school day on the last day of the 2007-08 school year, which will be Friday, May 30. All elementary schools will end the day at 11:15 a.m.; the high schools will release students at 12:05 p.m., and the middle schools will end the school year at 12:45 p.m. The students are being released early so their families will have time to make it to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, if a relative is participating in one of the three high school graduation ceremonies being held at that location on Friday.

Monday

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its June Business Meeting on Monday, June 2, at 7 p.m., in the recital hall at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. Zion Pkwy., Jonesboro. The board is scheduled to vote on tentative adoption for the fiscal year 2009 budget, proposed changes on how the public can address the board during meetings, and the Corrective Superintendent will announce his plan to save the school system's accreditation.

June 16

The Clayton County Chamber of Commerce will host a political forum featuring the candidates for all seven open school board seats on Monday, June 16, from 6 p.m., to 9 p.m., at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. June 23

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold two public hearings on the fiscal year 2009 Budget on Monday, June 23, at 11:45 a.m., and 6:30 p.m., in the recital hall at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. Zion Pkwy., Jonesboro. This will be the public's only opportunity to address the board about the proposed budget.

June 30

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its June Work Session on Monday, June 30, at 7 p.m., in the recital hall at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. Zion Pkwy., Jonesboro. The board will vote on final adoption of the fiscal year 2009 budget.

The Clayton County Public Library system offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams.
