A long-standing holiday tradition continues in McDonough this weekend, as local business owners welcome area residents with their own brand of Christmas cheer.
The city will host its annual Merchants' Holiday Open House on The Square Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. A second installment of the event is scheduled for Nov. 16.
Casey Case is the city's media relations specialist. According to her, the occasion provides numerous benefits for people in Henry County to get the holiday season off to a good start.
"This offers citizens of McDonough, and area residents, a chance to come to The Square, visit the different shops, find unique gifts and get their Christmas shopping done early," said Case. "It gives the sense of a community coming together, visiting with each other, while they shop, bringing back memories of Christmases gone by."
The city spokesperson said merchants on The Square will have refreshments available for both days of the open house, "making it a festive, two-day shopping event."
The Nov. 16 open house will coincide with another holiday occasion in the City of McDonough. The McDonough Arts Council will hold Christmas with the Arts, as part of its Art in the Park Series.
Christmas-themed gifts and related items will be on sale during the event.
