Janet M. Hinson

Janet M. Hinson, 68, of Lakemont, Ga., passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008.

Memorial Services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Tiger United Methodist Church, 64 Pleasant Place, Tiger, Ga., 30576.

A member of Tiger United Methodist Church, Mrs. Hinson played hand bells in her church, directed many church musical productions, was an elementary school music teacher in Pelham, Ga. She coached literary teams in choral musical competitions, and was a past Cub Scout den mother.

Mrs. Hinson was the first city councilwoman in the City of Pelham; past chairwoman of the Mitchell County Cultural Commission. First and foremost, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, David H. Hinson, of Lakemont; children, the Rev. David B. and Donna Hinson, of Lincolnton; Julie and George Boyd, of Columbus; grandchildren, Tyler, Emily and Shelby Hinson; Mary Grace, Catherine and Chloe Boyd; mother, Edith Wickline, of Tyler, Texas; Brother and sister-in-law, Ronald P. and Judi Wickline, of Boston, Mass.; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Dr. James Novy, of Tyler, Texas.

J. P. Gant, Sr.

J.P. Gant, Sr., 84, died Nov. 2, 2008. He was born Jan. 16, 1924 in Davidson, N.C.

J.P was a member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church and was a retired superintendent of 31 years at Kroehler Mfg. Company, and also received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army.

He was an avid woodworker, and fishing was his favorite hobby. He was preceded in death by his son, J.P. Gant, Jr., and his mother and father, seven sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 11a.m., in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home.The Rev. Irvin Pearre will officiate. Burial wil follow in Sherwood Memorial Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, who fiercely protected him during his 20 years of declining health, Peggy Joyce; and son, Randy and his wife, Paula Gant; 3 grandchildren, Brandi Smith and her husband,Lee, Jay Gant and his wife, Jamie, and J.P. Gant, III; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Dolly White and Virginia Caldwell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Frances Ann Harris, 82, of Jonesboro, died Nov. 2, 2008.

She is the widow of Harvey Harris and is survived by her daughter, Sarah Larson, of Hampton; son-in-law, Randy Vick, of Jonesboro; brother, L.B. Rice,of Jackson; sister, Doris Fuller, of Covington, and grandchildren, Darren Larson, of Houston, Texas, and Tammy McCoy, of Hampton.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Jonesboro Chapel of Pope Dickson & Son, with the Rev. Tom Shannon officiating. Entombment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
