Sometimes, I wonder just what this world is coming to, as my mother and grandmother used to say.
It seems that one can hardly trust anyone today, for there is so much thievery and meanness going on. Today, we must be very careful with our credit cards, our social security numbers, bank account numbers, and even the checks we write, to be sure someone doesn't change the amount and "rip us off," as the saying goes.
Stolen identity is a major problem and a very difficult one to correct. Sham artists are always around, it seems, to come up with some scheme to fool us into giving them our money.
It seems to me that some folks would rather lie than tell the truth, and I find this very offensive.
I have always been taught to tell the truth and to follow the golden rule when dealing with others, and I have tried to live an honest life, although I realize I have not been perfect. I know many children have not been taught or even exposed to God's golden rule of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
They have been told to watch out for themselves at any cost, even though it may hurt others. On the surface this doesn't seem wrong, but if one grows up and continues to treat others carelessly and only thinks of himself, then bad things will result. The Bible says to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22: 6.
Judging from our society today not many are following this advice. Every day, we hear of people mistreating others -- murders, rapes, beatings, robberies of every description and all sorts of lies and deceptions.
The Devil's lies have become ways of life for many; it's OK to live your life anyway you want to. You don't have to be married; you don't have to live with or love a man or woman; same sex is fine.
If you want something, take it. It's OK as long as you don't get caught. Abortion is legal, so do what you feel is good for you. You're number one, and most important, so you can cheat or steal or do anything you want.
Obviously, this is not the way anyone should live, but can you deny that many do live in this manner?
How should we live and what is the truth of life? Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." John 14:6a.
Christ also told us how we should live and treat others: "A new command I give you, love one another; as I have loved you, so must you love one another."
Jesus Christ came to earth to live a perfect life and to set a perfect example for us to follow in our dealings with others and our relationship with the Lord. In John 13: 15-17, He said: "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."
Christians believe the Bible as the word of God. They know it is true, and they try to live by its teachings. Praise God for giving us the Holy Bible!
May we all listen to the Word of God, realize and accept its truth and try, to the best of our ability, to live by it!
If you are not a Christian, please decide to place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and He will give you the power to live a life pleasing to Him. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free!
