FAITH NOTES: Community Impact Center hosts gala event tonight

Nov. 14

The New Birth South Community Impact Center will host its first annual "A Community Affair" banquet on Friday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 10 p.m. This gala will feature live music, a silent auction, spoken-word poetry, an award-winning play, and a full-course meal, all for $50 per person. All proceeds will go toward expanding Community Impact Center programs. Caring Ministries is hosting a special evening for anyone who has lost a loved one in the previous year. This is the perfect time to honor your loved one. We will have a special speaker, and end by lighting a candle in remembrance of your loved one. Nov. 15

Hampton First Baptist Church, located at 85 McDonough St. in Hampton, will celebrate the 90th birthday of Theron Langley on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 2-4 p.m. The celebration will take place at the home of the Yancey family. Nov. 16

Operation Christmas Child will take place at Hampton First Baptist Church, located at 85 McDonough Street in Hampton, on Sunday, Nov. 16. Finish filling those shoe boxes with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. Bring in your boxes by Sunday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., and join us that evening for the Loading Party. Nov. 23

Restoring the Love Again, Inc., a Stockbridge-based, non-profit focused on helping domestic violence victims and their children, will host its first annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the victims of abuse on Nov. 23, from 3-6 p.m. The organization is seeking food donations and volunteers to help prepare and serve the food to the families. VIP Ministries of Forest Park First Baptist Church will meet Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10:45 a.m., in the church Fellowship Hall for a special luncheon for senior citizens. Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church, located at 2165 Hwy. 138, SW in Riverdale, will host a Thanksgiving Eve Service on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 7:30 p.m. As a part of this special service, people are asked to bring gifts of nonperishable foods that we will place on the altar during the service. These foodstuffs will then be given to the Atlanta Food Bank to help stock their food pantry for the coming months. Needed items are peanut butter, canned tuna, beans, stews, soups, fruits, and vegetables, 100 percent fruit juice, powdered milk, macaroni and cheese dinners, and cereal. Greater Works Baptist Church is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair/Extravaganza on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m., to 4 p.m. Hand crafters specializing in art such as knitting, crocheting, jewelry-making, quilting, woodworking, basket-weaving, etc., will display and sell their work. Everyone will have an opportunity to view and shop for one-of-a-kind treasures. The event will take place at the church, located at 3296 Walt Stephens Road in Jonesboro. All are welcome.

Dec. 12

The Association of Christian Ministers of Clayton County (ACMCC) will host its yearly banquet, entitled "Finishing Strong," on Friday, Dec. 12 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel on Sullivan Road. The event will honor President Gerry T. Anderson of New Macedonia Baptist Church, who has served as ACMCC president for the past two years. The night will feature entertainment from gospel recording artist Candi Staton, as well as saxophonist Antonio Allen of "Five Men on a Stool." Tickets much be purchased in advance. Divine Faith Ministries, located at 9800 Tara Blvd. in Jonesboro, is launching its third annual "Hometown Harvest." Our goal this year is to provide 200 turkeys to families that need them. We are well on our way, but still need your help to assist these families. Your tax deductible donation of $20 will provide a turkey for one family. The Taizé Prayer service is a meditative experience that has been enjoyed by people, young and old, around the world. Its beginnings are in a small community called Taizé, located in France. The overarching theme of a Taizé Worship Service is reconciliation through prayer. This worship experience is offered on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m., in the sanctuary.
