Mrs. Alpha Tarter Vernon

November 1, 1933 - November 26, 2008

Mrs. Alpha Mae Tarter Vernon, age 75 of Hampton passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Vernon was born on November 1, 1933 in Kentucky to the late Homer Tarter and the late Eva Pearl Meece Tarter. Mrs Vernon was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Vernon. She was a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Hampton.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryle and Joe Turner of Hampton, Karen and Steven Ray of Senoia; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Dorothy Vernon of Jonesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Molly Abston, Stephanie Butcher, John Ray, Ashton Collier, Destiny Collier; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Abston, Trevor Butcher, Tori Butcher; sisters, Shelia Skinner of Jonesville, Va., Cindy McCleery of Jonesville, Va.; brother, Roger Tarter of Jonesville, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Vernon will be on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, Mrs. Vernon will be carried to the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va. where the funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arney-Mullins Funeral Home. Reverand David Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va. Friends may visit the family Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
