'I Pray for Riverdale' Prayer Walk this Saturday

Greater St. Peter AME Church at River's Edge, where Rev. Isaiah J. Waddy is senior pastor, will celebrate its 95th anniversary during Holy Convocation 2008. On Friday night, Oct. 3, there will be night worship service at 7:15 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Lay Organization will present "Reflections of Elegance," a garden fashion show and dinner reception, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25. On Sunday, Oct. 5, we will celebrate our 95th anniversary during "Super Impact Sunday." Oct. 4

"I Pray for Riverdale!" will host its annual Prayer Walk on Saturday morning, Oct. 4, starting at First Baptist Church of Riverdale, located at 6805 Church Street in Riverdale. The community is welcome to join "I Pray for Riverdale!" in going door-to-door to pray for residents in the surrounding Riverdale community. There is a part for everyone in the Prayer Walk. If you cannot physically do the walking, then, we can use you to help with registration, to sell "I Pray for Riverdale!" T-shirts, and to help prepare lunch. The more people we have, the more people with whom we can pray. Participants will meet in the church parking lot at 10 a.m., to organize and will depart at 10:30 a.m. Walkers will return at 12:30 p.m., for a lunch inside the church's fellowship hall. St. John's Episcopal Church's annual Blessing of the Animals and Fall Festival will be held Oct. 4, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m. Animals of all shapes and sizes are invited to come be blessed, petted, and loved. Their owners can also enjoy the free, fun-filled, family-friendly Fall Festival. St. John's Blessing of the Animals commemorates Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron of animals and the environment. The blessing service itself will begin at 1 p.m. All furry, fuzzy, feathery, leathery, slimy, scaly, or stuffed animals are encouraged to attend! The event will also include raffles and prizes, a bounce house, scavenger hunt, teddy bear repair station, face painting, barbecue and bake sale, book store, flea market, a paw reader, and pony rides. St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Church, located at 199 North Main Street in Jonesboro, will host its annual Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, Oct. 4. Held each fall season to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals; any and all kinds of pets are welcome to participate in this traditional service. The blessing of animals will take place every hour on the half hour in the gardens at the rear of the church between 10 a.m., and 2 p.m. This year, in conjunction with the blessing, there will be a Fall Festival featuring crafts, baked goods, a raffle, face painting, and light refreshments. Praying For Our Children Ministry would like to extend an opportunity for you to become a vendor at the first Annual Praying For Our Children Conference Oct. 9-12, at the Georgia International Convention Center. The Praying for Our Children Conference is a four-day event that will encompass powerful international speakers, life-changing testimonies, amazing praise and worship. Corinth Baptist Church will host its Three J Café and Harvest Jamboree on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 3-8:30 p.m. It will be a day of fun and entertainment with live music, craft booths, games, prizes and treats. St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Morrow will have its annual Autumn Faire on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m., to 4 p.m. There will be lots of great activities, including a yard sale, games and prizes, arts and crafts, pet blessings, a cake walk, and more. Community health agencies such as the American Red Cross and the Georgia Children Identification Program will be present. Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures will be performing dental check-ups for kids. There will be a raffle for a beautiful handmade Afghan and a digital camera. The fifth annual Providence Baptist Church Community Fall Festival will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m., to 5 p.m., on the church grounds, located at 1773 Hawthorne Ave., in College Park. This year's event theme is "A Festival of Help," focusing on affordable goods and services that will help offset financial challenges facing families and senior citizens. In partnership with several corporate sponsors, this year's festival will include free health screenings, free furniture and household goods, free clothing, free haircuts, grocery and gas card giveaways, and discount dental care. Explore the possibilities of prayer and join Ellenwood United Methodist Church on Sunday, Oct. 12 for a prayer workshop. Rev. Corinth Baptist Church of Jonesboro will perform "Odyssey," its annual, walk-through, dramatic presentation on spiritual perspectives, from Oct. 22-26 from 6:30-9 p.m. Come see what happens when four teenagers get trapped in a house fire, die, and reach their final destinations. Attendees will move from scene to scene, watching the characters move through life, witnessing the decisions they make, and the consequences. The characters then face the judgment seat of Christ where their eternal sentence is handed down. It is an exciting and penetrating portrayal of an experience we will all pass through some day. The Taizé Prayer service is a meditative experience that has been enjoyed by people, young and old, around the world. Its beginnings are in a small community called Taizé located in France. Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche, a reformed minister was instrumental in its development. The overarching theme of a Taizé Worship Service is reconciliation through prayer.
