Clayton State University is hosting two discussions of the presidential election on Thursday, Oct. 9. Clayton State's Political Science professors will facilitate a discussion on "Contrasting all of the candidates after the first two debates," from 11:10 a.m., to 12:30 p.m. The discussion will be held in room 267 of the James M. Baker University Center. Also, the university's Department of Campus Life, as part of its "A Multicultural World @ Clayton State" series, will present the discussion on the 2008 presidential election, "Decision 2008: Obama vs. McCain," from 7 to 9 p.m., in the ballroom of the University's new Student Activity Center. Marko Maunula, assistant professor of History, will be the featured presenter for the discussion, entitled, "The Candidates Unveiled."
The Clayton County Library Board of Trustees will hold its regular quarterly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m., in the Headquarters Library Board Room, 865 Battle Creek Road, Jonesboro. The meeting is open to the public.
The Jonesboro Knights of Columbus will host its 36th annual Public Safety Appreciation Day in the council hall, at 481 Flint River Road, from 11:30 a.m., to 1:30 p.m., on Oct. 15. The Knights of Columbus will provide the Clayton County communities' Police, Fire, EMT, Sheriff's deputies and 911 personnel with lunch.
Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting "Lights On After School Rally" at Lee Street Park, from 5-8 p.m., on Oct. 16. The Clayton County Business Community "Business2Business Bowling Tournament 2008 will be held on Friday, Oct. 17. The Second Annual Event, hosted by State Rep. Mike Glanton and Clayton County Tax Commissioner Terry Baskin, will be held at Pin Strikes Bowling Center, at 3478 Mt. Zion Road, Stockbridge. The Tournament begins at 6 p.m. Registration is $300 per team of five. The Tara Beekeepers Association will present a "Beekeeping Short Course" at the Reynolds Nature Preserve on Saturday Oct. 18, from 8 a.m., to 4:15 p.m. The course is for beginning beekeepers, but experienced beekeepers seeking current information also are welcome. The course will enable most people to easily maintain a hive. The cost of the day-long class is $50, or $55 the day of the program at the door, which includes a one-year membership for Tara Beekeeper Club, Short Course, refreshments, lunch, handouts and the book, "A First Lesson in Beekeeping." The Clayton County Farm Bureau will be promoting the importance of agriculture and member benefits, including insurance, at the Firefighter Combat Challenge, 1986 Mt. Zion Road, on Oct. 18.
