A weekend of fall festivals

Oct. 11

God First Breakthrough Ministries, located at 115 Old Conyers Road in Stockbridge, will have a big yard sale and fish fry on Saturday, Oct. 11. The yard sale will take place from 8 a.m., to 4 p.m., and the fish fry will take place from 11 a.m., to 4 p.m. For more information, call (770) 474-8586.

Corinth Baptist Church will host its Three J Café and Harvest Jamboree on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 3-8:30 p.m. It will be a day of fun and entertainment with live music, craft booths, games, prizes and treats. St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Morrow will have its annual Autumn Faire on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m., to 4 p.m. There will be lots of great activities, including a yard sale, games and prizes, arts and crafts, pet blessings, a cake walk, and more. Community health agencies such as the American Red Cross and the Georgia Children Identification Program will be present. Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures will be performing dental check-ups for kids. There will be a raffle for a beautiful handmade Afghan and a digital camera. The fifth annual Providence Baptist Church Community Fall Festival will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m., to 5 p.m., on the church grounds, located at 1773 Hawthorne Ave., in College Park. This year's theme is "A Festival of Help," focusing on affordable goods and services that will help offset financial challenges facing families and senior citizens. In partnership with several corporate sponsors, this year's festival will include free health screenings, free furniture and household goods, free clothing, free haircuts, grocery and gas card giveaways, and discount dental care. Performances will include a drum line challenge between Westlake and Banneker high schools, the Providence Baptist Church Mass Choir, and rhythm and blues artist, Charles Nesbitt. Oct. 12

Explore the possibilities of prayer and join Ellenwood United Methodist Church on Sunday, Oct. 12 for a prayer workshop. Rev. Leah Cunningham of the UMC North Georgia Prayer Force will preach during the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will be served after the service and prior to the workshop. Corinth Baptist Church of Jonesboro will perform "Odyssey," its annual, walk-through, dramatic presentation on spiritual perspectives, from Oct. 22-26, from 6:30-9 p.m. Come see what happens when four teenagers get trapped in a house fire, die, and reach their final destinations. Attendees will move from scene to scene, watching the characters move through life, witnessing the decisions they make, and the consequences. The characters then face the judgment seat of Christ where their eternal sentence is handed down. It is an exciting and penetrating portrayal of an experience we will all pass through some day. Oct. 23

Join New Birth South Community Impact Center for a Domestic Violence Awareness and Intervention Workshop, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 7-9 p.m. Together, we will put an end to domestic violence. The event will be an interactive panel featuring speakers from the fields of medicine, law, law enforcement, business, and domestic violence intervention. The event is free and open to the public. The New Birth South Community Impact Center will host its first annual "A Community Affair" banquet on Friday, Nov. 14, from 7-10 p.m. This gala event will be a night to remember that will feature live music, a silent auction, spoken-word poetry, an award-winning play, and a delicious full-course meal, all for $50 per person. Jonesboro First United Methodist Church invites you to participate in a Taizé Prayer Service. The Taizé Prayer service is a meditative experience that has been enjoyed by people, young and old, around the world. Its beginnings are in a small community called Taizé located in France. Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche, a reformed minister was instrumental in its development. The overarching theme of a Taizé Worship Service is reconciliation through prayer. This worship experience is offered on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m., in the sanctuary.
