Clayton State provides community flu shots

Thursday

Clayton State University's Health Services department will offer flu shots to the public on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m., to 3 p.m., in the James M. Baker University Center. The cost for a flu shot is $15 for Clayton State students, $17 for faculty and staff, and $23 for the general public.

Friday

Kendrick Middle School will hold a Fall Carnival on Friday, Oct. 24, from 5:30-8 p.m., at 7971 Kendrick Road, Jonesboro. The school is extending special invitations to students at Callaway, Lakeridge and Swint Elementary Schools.

Morrow Elementary School will hold a Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 24, from 6-8 p.m., at the school, which is located at 6115 Reynolds Road, Morrow. There will be a cake walk, a giant slide, a bounce house, and several games.

Monday

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its October Work Session on Monday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., at the district's Central Administration complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro.

The Elite Scholars Academy charter school will hold an informational meeting on Monday, Oct. 27, from 7:15-8 p.m., at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. Zion Parkway, Jonesboro.

Oct. 30

The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its October Public Participation Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m., at the district's Central Administration complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro.

Nov. 20

The Brown Elementary School Council will meet on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 8 a.m., at 9971 Poston Road, Jonesboro. Parents who want to address the council during the meeting must sign in by 7:45 a.m.

The United States Army National Guard recently announced Pvt. Kevin D. Elder, son of Riverdale resident Shibana Cutter, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During his training, Elder studied basic combat skills; military weapons; chemical warfare; rifle marksmanship; map reading; field tactics; the military justice system, and basic first aid.

The United States Army recently announced Spec. David Feinstein, a 1998 graduate of Morrow High School, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During his training, Feinstein studied basic combat skills; military weapons; chemical warfare; rifle marksmanship; map reading; field tactics; the military justice system, and basic first aid. Feinstein is the son of Rex resident Andrea Feinstein, and the brother of Cumming resident Danielle Feinstein. He is also a 2005 graduate of Mississippi State University.

Scholars Academy State Charter Elementary School, 6390 Church St., in Riverdale, still has space for students for the current school year, and has ongoing enrollment. There are no tuition costs, and parents need to bring items such as photo identification; birth certificates; proof of residency, and completed immunization forms to enroll their children in the school. The Clayton County Public Library system offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams.
