Historic playoff appearances end early

They were historic appearances, but they didn't last long.

Henry County and Luella made the volleyball state playoffs for the first time in school history, but neither could advance past the first round.

The Warhawks (3-12, 0-6) lost 3-0 to Greater Atlanta Christian School in the Class A/AA tournament. The Lions (6-19, 1-6) fell 3-0 to Pope, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA by gasports.com, in the Class AAAAA tournament.

Here's how other Southern Crescent teams faired in state volleyball tournaments:

Region AAAAA

Lovejoy lost 25-3, 25-12, 25-16 to Northview in the second round. The Wildcats defeated Camden County, 20-25, 25-6, 25-12, 22-25, 15-11, in the first round.

Union Grove (31-15, 10-1) fell 25-6, 25-11, 25-12 to No. 5 Lassiter in the first round.

Region AAAA

Jonesboro (35-15, 7-0) lost 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 to Whitewater, ranked No. 3 in Class AAAA by gasports.com, in the first round.

Ola (35-16, 7-2) fell 25-21, 28-26, 25-15 to No. 4 McIntosh in the first round.

Dutchtown (27-18, 6-1) lost 21-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-18 to No. 5 Starr's Mill in the first round.

Forest Park (22-7, 6-4) fell 25-8, 25-2, 25-8 to No. 2 Sandy Creek in the first round.

Region AAA

Woodland (9-13, 4-3) advanced to the second round, but lost to Shaw. The Wolfpack defeated Baldwin, 25-17, 25-8, 21-25, 25-14, in the first round.

Eagle's Landing (6-24, 4-4) fell in the second round to Lakeview, 25-16, 25-13, 25-23. The Golden Eagles won 25-10, 25-12, 25-20 to Liberty County.

Region A/AA

Eagle's Landing Christian Academy (30-18, 7-3) advanced to the second, but lost 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 to Westminster, ranked No. 1 in Class A/AA by gasports.com.

The Eagles defeated Providence Christian in the first round.
