Fund-raiser to help non-profit in crisis

By Johnny Jackson

Photographer Melissa Custer, and business woman Mitzi Carr, are attempting to improve the holidays for one local non-profit agency.

Their McDonough businesses - Artistic Images by Melissa Custer and Pizaz Boutique on the McDonough Square - have partnered to provide a "A Christmas Portrait Fund-raiser" charity event to help raise money for Noah's Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center and Children's Care Home in Locust Grove.

The rehabilitation center has been suffering from decreased donations, lately, and has been soliciting community support to help keep the non-profit's operations going.

The nation's current economic crisis has harshly affected the center, which cares for more than 1,000 animals, and several children. Many of its donations have decreased in recent months.

"They're in a crisis situation right now; they need all of the donations that they can receive," said Carr, owner of Pizaz. "This is a small way for us to help them."

This weekend, the businesses will host photo shoots, between 10 a.m., and 4 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday. The photo shoots will include photos with Santa for children, adults, and pets. The shoots will be conducted by Custer at Pizaz, which is located at 31 Griffin Street on the McDonough Square.

Portrait collections can be used for portraits or holiday cards and will start at $49, with about 10 percent of the proceeds going to Noah's Ark.

"You can have your family portraits done there as well," said Custer, who hopes to raise more than $2,000 for the non-profit. "It's just one more way for us to give back to our community. It's a great time to order your Christmas cards and help a local charity as well."

Custer is also looking for sponsors for the fund-raiser.

"We need support to help pay for Santa and to raise money for Noah's Ark," she said. Those interested in participating in the fund-raiser as a sponsor or patron may find more information at Custer's web site, or call Pizaz at (678) 565-4040.

Patrons may also donate by visiting the Noah's Ark web site.
