jsmith@henryherald.com The Henry County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an effort to allow local residents to display their talents, in picture-perfect fashion. The county is holding a photography contest, featuring submissions of photographs taken at parks, activities and events promoted by the department. Kathy Hunt is the agency's program coordinator, and the organizer for the contest. She said one reason for the competition is to fill the county's brochures, calendars and web site with pictures by residents who have taken advantage of recreational outlets in the area. Hunt added that the department has another motive for scheduling the contest. "We're looking for pictures to put in our new facility at 99 Lake Dow Rd., in McDonough, at Heritage Park." Color, black-and-white and digital photos for the contest will be accepted in several categories, including sports and wildlife. Hunt emphasized that pictures taken at Panola Mountain State Park are not eligible for admission, as the park is not a county facility. She encouraged residents to submit photos taken by residents who visited county facilities as part of their Labor Day activities. Pictures submitted for the competition will not be returned, but photographers will retain copyright and ownership status for their original work. The entry deadline for the contest is Nov. 3. A complete list of rules, as well as an entry form for the contest, are available at www.hcprd.org.
