A little bit of heaven - right now - James C. Bell

I remember when I was a small boy how I loved to hear my parents and grandmother talk about heaven. Their hope was in the Lord and they believed Jesus was coming again to take us all to heaven.

They said heaven was a real place, so beautiful with all kinds of flowers and trees, pure water and blue skies. There was no darkness there, no night, for the light of God shined in an eternal day. (This was very good for I was afraid of the dark.)

I didn't understand many of the big words they used, but I could see the hope and trust they had in Jesus on their smiling faces. They said things would be better when we get to heaven-we would have plenty of food to eat and a warm place to stay.

There would be no sickness there, no sadness or fear and no tears; our God would provide everything we needed. Everyone would be happy and pleased with all the Lord provided, and they would praise His Holy name with singing and testimony of what the Lord had done for them. Those times were a little bit of heaven for me. I told them I was packing my bag so I would be ready to go!

We all have a hope for heaven when we put our trust in Jesus Christ. I'm so thankful that our great and mighty God has provided the way for all mankind to go to heaven one day. The sin of the world was so great and so offensive to the Father God that He knew only one thing would be worthy of His forgiveness-the very life of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

So God sent His Son in a miraculous way-He was God Himself coming to earth as a baby, born of a woman but fathered by the Holy Spirit. He was both God and man-100 percent of both.

Please look in your Bible to the Book of John, chapter one, verses 1and 14. Here God tells us, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God." He (Jesus) was with God in the beginning of time. Verse 14: "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We (disciples) have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

Jesus was God in the fullest sense-look at Romans 9:5, "Theirs are the Patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised. Amen."

This is one of the clearest statements of the deity of Jesus Christ found in the New Testament. There should be no doubt in our minds that Jesus Christ, the beloved Son of God, is the Savior of the world, of all mankind.

When a person accepts this truth of Jesus and believes in his heart that Jesus can and will save him, he has the power, the choice, to become an adopted son of God and a brother/sister of Jesus Christ.

I love to pray this prayer with those I am privileged to witness of Jesus and His saving power: "Dear Lord, I know I am a sinner, I've been trusting in my own self, but now I put my trust in You. I believe in You, I believe in Your Son, Jesus Christ. I believe He died on the cross to pay for my sins. I ask You now to forgive my sins-in Jesus' name, and to give me your gift of Eternal life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

God's gift of eternal life-heaven-starts the moment we earnestly pray this simple prayer. God will bless you, and your name will be written in His "Book of life." You will begin enjoying a "Little bit of Heaven" every day-right now!

Our eternal life begins the moment we accept Christ as our Savior! So, when you pack your bag and get ready to go to heaven, be sure to pack your prepaid ticket of faith in Jesus, and believe He will take you home. He will do it!

May God bless you.
