Automobile enthusiasts on the south side of Atlanta will have a chance, this weekend, to see some of the area's most souped-up machines during an event in Henry County.
Tanger Factory Outlet Center in Locust Grove will host a Classic Car Cruise Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Jim Chambers heads up the family-owned Lost in the '50s organization, which holds car shows at the mall once a month, from April through October each year.
Chambers, 70, said providing a venue for the community to see the vehicles allows him to pursue his passion."We've been doing this at Tanger for 10 years, and I've owned classic cars for the last 15 years," he said.
"Some people like to play golf or basketball. My hobby is messing with old cars."
Typically, 200-300 cars are on display at the mall for the monthly show. Some of those cars, Chambers noted, are worth more than $100,000.
The businessman said the "family atmosphere" of the occasion appeals to more people than just those with appreciation for speed. "Women can bring their husbands, and let them look at cars while they go shopping."
Admission to the car show is free. The fee for automobile owners to register for the show is $1.
Lost in the '50s will also hold a separate car show Oct. 4, from 9 a.m., to 3 p.m. Chambers said "every nickel" generated from that event will benefit breast-cancer research in Georgia.
The entry fee for that event is $20. For more information, call Tanger Outlet at (770) 957-5310.
