Gretrude Frances McLeroy

Mrs. Gretrude Frances McLeroy, of Riverdale, passed away Monday, Sept.22, 2008. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riverdale and was a retired employee of the Clayton County Board of Education. She worked in the Food Services at Church Street Elementary School.

Mrs. McLeroy was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Curtis McLeroy, just three short weeks ago. A son, Douglas McLeroy, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Deese, of Riverdale; 4 granddaughters, Janie Brooks, Jana Beach, Amanda Armistead and Jennifer Waters, 3 great-grandsons; Landon and Kaleb Brooks and Avery Armistead, one great-granddaughter; Gracie Armistead; one brother and sister-in-law; Allen and Margaret Scott, of Jonesboro; two sisters; Sybil Conine and Allene Davis, both of Riverdale; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m., at The First Baptist Church of Riverdale, with the Rev. Jeff Lowe officating. Burial will follow in the Riverdale Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will recieve friends at the Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel in Jonesboro on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. Horis A. David Prather

Mr. David Prather, 77, of Riverdale, passed away Sept. 22, 2008.

He is survived by his children, David Lee, Daryl, Michael and Sybil Roladers; sisters, Myrna Welborn, of LaGrange, Frances Buchino, of LaGrange, Mary Cupps, of LaGrange, Brenda Ward, of Warm Springs, Jane Prather, of LaGrange; 6 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Jonesboro Church of God of Prophecy, with the Rev. Gary D. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Carolyn Frances Freeman Barnes

Mrs. Carolyn Frances Freeman Barnes, 94, of Lake City, passed away, Sept. 21, 2008. She was born in Birmingham, Ala., on April 26, 1914. She moved with her family to the Abbottsford community in LaGrange, Ga.

She married Wightman Barnes on April 21, 1935 and they had one daughter, Ann. Wightman died of cancer on April 21, 1956, which was his and Frances' 21st wedding anniversary. Frances moved to East Point, in June 1956 and then to southwest Atlanta, and eventually to Lake City.

She retired from her first job with Kentec Die Cutters as a secretary and bookkeeper in 1984 after more than 40 years with the company. Frances retired from her second job working in cash control for Service Merchandise in 2001 at the age of 87.

She has been an active member of the Joy Sunday school class, the Silvertones Senior Adult choir and the Merry Hearts Senior Club at First Baptist Church Morrow since 1986.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Ann and James Manuel, of Morrow; a grandson and his wife, Andy and Kristen Manuel, of Newnan, and several other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at First Baptist Church Morrow. Pastor Thomas Quisenberry and Pastor Charles Robinson will officiate. Louis J. Rickman

Louis J. Rickman, 68, of Fayette County, died Sept. 22, 2008. Mr. Rickman was a graphic artist and patch designer and was also a lifetime volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.

He studied, collected and embodied all things Native American, especially the Cherokee Nation. He loved hiking, camping and soccer.

Mr. Rickman was preceded in death by his brother, John Rickman.

He is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Helen Rickman, of Fayetteville; sons, Steven J. Rickman, of Atlanta, Kevin J. and his wife, Kari Rickman, and their children, Jackson and Gracie, of Loganville, Matthew D. and his wife, Dana Rickman, and their children, Zachary and Andie, of Jackson's Gap, Ala.; and sister, Rowena Lynn Rickman.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, at noon at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, with Father Karl Duggan and Father John Kieran officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
